Last week on Tuesday, I get to my car after work and had to call for a tow.

Kinja'd!!!

Power steering hose was broken right at the edge of the cooler. Well, once again, I get home and smell ATF. Look at the cooler, and the hose is swelling. Not only swelling, but definitely pushed back off the fitting and leaking fluid.

I'm so goddamn sick of this cold weather, because the brand new dealership hose lasted me all of 10 days. I don't have the time or money for this bullshit. I'm waiting to see what my shop can do about it, whether I can push the hose back on in the morning and at least drive it to the shop, or if I have to call a tow, which will be a big deal for me, very inconvenient. Incredibly inconvenient.

I'm just frustrated. We'll see what happens. Time for new clamps, see what can be done about the hose, and hope the weekend doesn't end up leaving me without a car.

I keep looking around forums, but I can't find much detail on it, so I have no reason to believe that it's a widespread problem. New hose clamps (screw type) are in order. Not sure what to do, system calls for ATF4+ just like the trans, but if the fluid can't handle the temperatures, maybe I need something else. Can't find anyone discussing that, so I'm not in a good position right now. Lucky to have made it home without problem, but no idea how the morning will work out. Also not sure if I have a smaller hose clamp to even try temporarily. Ugh.

Currently I'm listening to my dad tell me why he thinks my investment strategy is bad, despite the fact he has no idea what the actual situation is. It gets old. Can't wait to move out, can't happen soon enough.

If anyone has thoughts or advice, it's welcome currently. Lost, confused and stressed out.

Is this a pressure hose or return line? I would use a hose clamp on a pressure hose. Most of those have rubber section compressed to metal so it doesn't pop off. I'd just get a new hose.

It's a return line, but it has to be high pressure rated. The hose was replaced on Feb 3 because the last one ruptured and had a 1 inch gash in the hose near the fitting. I'm going to be removing a plastic part from the car so the hose has more room to sit, but this is a serious issue. The hose lasted 10 days. The same hose that ruptured, ruptured again, in the exact same spot.

Too cold to take a picture. May try to push the hose back on and change the clamp and deal with it in the morning, hope it doesn't blow and I can drive it 4 miles to the shop without destroying the pump, which was put on the car with the new motor.
